چکیده
Software development companies – like other knowledge intensive organisations seek to utilise their intellectual competencies effectively in their pursuit of higher professionalism. In this paper we discuss some of the dilemmas facing software development organisations attempting to define and implement a knowledge management strategy as overall organisational strategies and priorities meet with the different knowledge creation and sharing needs within different organisational groups. Further we discuss how popular software process improvement models might have an impact on the organisation's abilities to transfer knowledge by forcing the organisation to rely on codification as the primary knowledge transfer method – even if the valuable knowledge is hard to codify and share this way.
